The role of English language in Indonesia is very important. English language for Indonesia as international language has a role to communicate among countries in the world. English language also leads Indonesia in developing some fields in affording to improve Indonesian existence in the world. Some roles of English language in Indonesia are: (1) to socialize with society generally, especially other country; (2) English language for technology, because now day, technology is dominated by English language; (3) English language as educational language, for example, if we want to study abroad we have to speak English fluently;(4) English language for working world because to be a professional worker sometimes we have to have an English language skill to communicate; (5) Empowering the world, because if we have a good English language skill, it is possible for Indonesia to empower the world in every field.

            The status of English language in Indonesia is as a foreign language. Foreign language means that the language is not a duty, but it is a necessity. Indonesian people are not acquired to speak English fluently. Indonesian people just need learning English for certain business like certain communication and requisition. As a foreign language, Indonesian people are recommended to learn English, but not obligation to learn.

            Based on the explanation above, we can conclude that English is important for Indonesian people. English language has many roles that Indonesian people must have because English language dominates almost every field of life. Although English is just as the foreign language, it is a necessity for us to learn English language. English is a necessary to communicate with other country and as a requisition for certain business. So, it can be conclude that Indonesian people are recommended to learn English as foreign language as an Indonesian’s people necessity.
