How to ask and give direction in English?

Berikut adalah ungkapan-ungkapan yang sering digunakan untuk meminta dan memberi arah:

-          Excuse me, can you tell me the way to the market? (Permisi, Bisa kasih tahu arah ke pasar) -          Excuse me, how do I get to the hospital? (Permisi, Bagaimana saya bisa ke rumah sakit) -          Excuse me, where’s the toilet? (Permisi, toilet di mana ya?) -          Excuse me, is there a cafe near here? (Permisi, adakah café dekat sini?) -          Excuse me, is it the right way to the Mall? (Permisi, apakah benar ini jalan ke Mall) -          Excuse me, where is the closest post office? (Permisi, di mana ya kantor pos terdekat?) -          Excuse me, do you know where the headmaster room is? (Permisi, Apakah kamu tahu ruang kepala sekolah?) -          Can you show me the way to the beach? (Permisi, bisa tunjukan jalan ke pantai) -          Can you give me the direction to the school? In giving direction, you can give more detail information such as how long and how far to get there, and by what to get there.

(Dalam memberi arah/petunjuk kamu bisa memberikan informasi rincinya tentang berapa lama, seberapa jauh, dan ke sana naik apa)

For example:

• How Long (Seberapa lama)

- Go straight about ten minutes then turn left

- From here, it’s about 15 minutes to get there

• How Far (Seberapa jauh)

- It’s about 1 km from here

- You can walk along the street about 100 meters

• How to get there (naik apa)

- You can get there by bus/taxi/on foot, etc.

In giving direction, we can use transition, such as: (Gunakanlah transisi di bawah ini agar tidak kaku)

• after that, (setelah itu)

• first,(pertama)

• then,(kemudian)

• after you get/pass, (setelah melewati)

• finally,(terakhir)

• after you meet, (setelah bertemu)

• after you cross,(setelah menyeberang)

• from the intersection you turn ….(dari perempatan kamu belok)

Example of giving direction (Contoh percakapan meminta dan memberi arah):

Ana : Excuse me, can you show me the way to the hospital?

Beni : Sure, from here you go straight on Pandawa street. It’s about 1 km you will find 
          the first intersection. Then turn left on Nakula street  you keep walking on about  
         10  minutes you will pass the police station in your left. The hospital is opposite the 
          police station.

Ana : How can I get there?

Beni : You can get there by bus or taxi

Ana : How much does it cost?

Beni : Maybe it costs ten thousand rupiah

Ana : How far and how long can I get there from here?

Beni : Maybe it’s around 3 km and you can get there in 15 minutes.

Ana : Ok, thank you

Beni : My pleasure
