RECOUNT TEXT IN ENGLISH

DEFINITION (PENGERTIAN)
Recount text is a text which retells event or experiences in the past.
(sebuah teks yang menceritakan kembali kejadian atau pengalaman di masa lampau)
PURPOSE (TUJUAN)
The purpose of Recount text is to retell the past experience/ what happened in the past.
(Tujuannya adalah untuk menceritakan kembali kejadian/pengalaman di masa lalu)
GENERIC STRUCTURE (STRUKTUR UMUM)
- Orientation : Background, such as who, where, and when it happened. (Latar belakang, seperti siapa, di mana,dan kapan peristiwanya)
- Events : Sequence of events chronologically(Serangkaian peristiwa yang terjadi secara berurutan)
- Reorientation : Personal comment or the end of the story (Rangkuman peristiwa , kesan, atau akhir dari cerita)
LANGUAGE FEATURES (UNSUR KEBAHASAAN)
- Using Past Tense (Verb 2). Example: had, lived, was, became, etc.
- Specific past time: yesterday, two days ago, when holiday, etc.
- Conjunction: then, before, next, finally, etc.
- Specific participant: I, my friend, My friend and I, my sister, etc.
- Action verbs: helped, went, saw, etc.
KINDS OF RECOUNT TEXT
- Personal Recount : Retells the writer’s personal experiences.
- Factual Recount : Retells about the facts/report, experiment.
- Imaginative Recount : Retells about the imaginative story.
- Historical Recount : Retells the history.
EXAMPLE (CONTOH)
Last Sunday morning, my family and I went to the beach. The name of the beach was Jetis Beach. When we got to the beach, we went to the shop to buy some foods and drinks.
After getting what we wanted, we continued to explore the beach and played sand. My brothers played and swam in the beach happily. But, my sister just took photos in the beach while laughing cheerfully.
After we were contented playing and swimming in the beach, we took a rest and ready to have lunch. My family and I ordered mendoan and pecel. The food was so delicious. Not only that, we ordered young coconuts that so fresh.
Finally, we decided to go home because it was getting hot in the beach. When we returned home we were tired but happy because we had so much fun.
